Mascara Madness

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Our clients are always asking us how long is an appropriate amount of time to keep their makeup products.  Mascara, in particular, should be replaced very regularly.  We recommend every three months.  Replacing your mascara will ensure that it does not collect bacteria and that it will always look fabulous and flake-free.

If you haven't found a great mascara that works for you, we recommend Kiss Me mascara.  Kiss Me is a wonderful new and innovative product from Japan.  The mascara forms tiny tubes around the eyelashes during application.  This ensures that the mascara is 100% flake free.  No more mess under your eyes!  When you are ready to take your mascara off, just rub water on your lashes, and the tubes slide off whole and go straight down your bathroom drain.  Kiss Me is available in both Black and Dark Brown shades for $25.

Call us today for a make-over appointment, and we will help you select all of your fall make-up products.

A client called the studio the other day with a question about a fabulous new fall fashion trend: tights.  You may have seen this trend in magazines and on billboards because it is everywhere!

There are several ways to wear tights this fall, and you will see them in a variety of colors and patterns.  If you are a more conservative and classic dresser, then stick to solid tights in your nice dark neutral color, like black on brown.  If you are a bit more daring, try a great pair of patterned tights in a stripe, but make sure that you don't get too crazy with your colors.  If you wear tights that are bright yellow or purple, you are only going to wish that you hadn't when you see pictures of yourself years later.  Instead, stick to your great dark neutral or try a fall color from you color palette.

Shoe choice is very important when wearing tights because you want to be current.  Think about a great pair of pumps, short boots, or the oxford style shoes that are so popular right now.

Both skirts and dresses look great with tights and a fabulous pair of shoes.  Many department stores and advertisements are pairing sweater dresses with tights.  These dresses are great for those women without any lumps and bumps, but if you have a problem area, then try to avoid sweater dresses.  Instead, stick to an a-line or straight skirt and a great cardigan or jacket.  These separates will bypass your problem area instead of highlighting it like a sweater dress.

You can also wear your tights with your summer, knit dresses if you put a great button down blouse under the dress or if you pair it with a cardigan.  This will allow you to wear some of your favorite pieces into the fall season.

Fall fashions for 2008 are fabulous.  Just remember to follow your color and body style guidelines so that you never become a fashion victim.  Instead, focus on fashions that make you feel current and fun while still fitting in with your signature style.

Shadow Magnet Success

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

It is time for a check-up for those of you that are using Shadow Magnet, one of our favorite eye concealors.  Did you know that Shadow Magnet (either in Light or Natural colors) should be applied both under the eye and on the eyelid so that it acts as both an eye concealor and an eyeshadow base.

Shadow Magnet is also part one of a two step process?  If you are using Shadow Magnet, are you addressing step number two?  If not, it is time to change your ways so that you can get the most coverage out of your concealor.

Here is a breakdown of Shadow Magnet steps one and two: After applying Shadow Magnet both under the eye and on the eyelid, apply a MATTE shadow on top of your Shadow Magnet product (EVERYWHERE that you put Shadow Magnet).  (Many of our clients love 201 Toast, a neutral, light, matte shadow).  Here are some great reasons to start using 201 Toast, or one of our other matte shadows:

  • The matte shadow will hold your Shadow Magnet in place all day long.  You will always have great eye concealor coverage, and that means no more tired looking eyes!
  • Your Shadow Magnet will also appear less shinny when you apply a matte shadow on top of it.  This will eliminate those pesky raccoon eyes.
  • The matte shadow creates a wonderful base for your other eye shadows so that they do not sink into your Shadow Magnet and disappear throughout the day.

Stop by the studio today to try out a matte shadow, or give us a call if you have any questions on how to get the most out of your eye concealor.

It is time to start planning your fall wardrobe, and this year, more than ever, everyone's number one concern is budget.  We all want to know how we can look our best without breaking the bank.

A great penny-pinching tip is to focus your fall wardrobe on your best dark neutral.  Some of the most common and easiest to find dark neutrals are black, gray, brown, and camel.  If you buy all of your fall wardrobe basics in your best dark neutral, you can then purchase a few mix and match focal pieces (like striking jackets and tops) to bring in a pop of color.

Here are some of the perks of focusing on your dark neutral for fall:

  • No one ever remembers exactly what a dark neutral piece looks like.  If you have a few great dark neutral pieces and some cute, current, and colorful items (like jackets, blouses, and accessories), you can simply trade out your fun items each day and then wear the same staple dark neutral items over and over.
  • Getting dressed in the morning will be a breeze.  When all of your clothes coordinate with your dark neutral items, you will be able to eliminate the worries of matching your clothing and the stresses of creating new outfits.  With a variety of dark neutral and accent pieces, your entire wardrobe can mix and match, and all of your pieces will work effortlessly together.
  • If all of your clothes coordinate with one great dark neutral, you will not have to purchase shoes, purses, and all other accessories in more than one color.  You can simply buy them in the same shade as your dark neutral or in a contrasting color, and think about all the time you will save in the morning without having to swap out purses!

Here are some great tips on getting the most out of your dark neutral purchases:

  • Buy quality basics so that they will last all season.  If you pay a little more up front for a great product, you will not have to replace it halfway through the season, and you will be able to wear it several times a week without worrying about the item wearing out.
  • Purchase tops (like shells and camisoles) and bottoms (like skirts and pants) in your dark neutral to create a monochromatic bodysuit.  Then, you can simply swap out accessories, jackets, and layering blouses for a variety of different looks.

Want help shopping for your best dark neutral?  Call Stoltz Image today to schedule a personal shopping appointment.

Not sure what your best dark neutral is?  Call Stoltz Image today to make an appointment with Elaine or a Stoltz Image Consultant for a color analysis.  Not only will you find out your best dark neutral, but you will be given a customized color fan full of fabrics that accentuate your best features and make you feel fabulous.
